Ulterior Motive
I love you for your body
Not just that one you wear upon your soul
To keep out the disquiet and cold
And protect you from the shoddy
I love you for the body of your being
Not merely for all the good stuff
I’ll take the smooth along with the rough
I love you for the visible as well as the unseen
I love you for the things you do to me
Not only when you touch my skin
Or somewhere much more deep within
Even your flaws do set me free
I love especially when you don’t call
It’s my reminder to love myself
You’ll never find me on the shelf
Because I’m strong enough, for you to fall
I love that I am me and you are you
None of this silly owe-nership
On every high, in every dip,
Bar loving you, there’s nought to do.
A Sea of Love
Her salt lingers in my hair,
her caresses on my skin are
but a
fleeting memory.
She makes me yearn
and beckons my return.
Whispers to me
the secrets of far flung shores
where coconut trees have sent their
seed to breed.
She comes to me in sleep and
colours my dream
aquamarine.
{ED’s Note: Sea of Love, published here, is
part of a longer poem with the same name.} |
