Auwal S Muktar
Blue
The veil of life
Or do I lie
in dreams
Does the mightier world of sleep
spread far and round its circles?
For the very spirit fails
Driven like a homeless cloud
that vanishes among viewless gales
far above
Piercing the endless sky
False it was
And unrelenting
When my last joys covered the ground
Even Sorrow was repenting
those sad relics scattered around
Life
Dreamer of dreams
Intuitive out of due time
Strive to set the day straight
Let it avail that morning song
Telling a story not too persistent
To those who in the sleepy world stay
Loss
Betrayal
Not a dream
Shady as elders say
Little morning rain predicts a lovely day
Sometimes there are clouds of gloom
But these are transient all
If love can unite us all
Palm
Warm beneath
Heavy sand piled above your grave
Did I forget my only friend?
When alone
My thoughts linger over the years
I dare not let it suffer
And dare not spoil the rapturous memories
How do I seek the happiest world again?
Beneath the tree
Near that stream
Faithful indeed
The spirit remembers
After so many months of change and loneliness
Forgive me if I forget you
Believe me it’s the sweet love of youth
While the world’s tide is bearing me along
Other desires and other hopes overwhelmed in me
Hopes which obscure but cannot do you wrong
No second morn has shunned me away
My life’s bliss is from your dare life was given
All my life’s bliss is in the grave with you
But when the golden days of dreams had perished
And even misery was powerless to destroy
Then I learned how existence could be cherished
And straightened without aid
